2010 Season Week 6 Clips

Illegally Kicking The Ball  This play is a rarely seen example of illegally kicking a loose ball.  (Not to be confused with an "illegal kick" which is something totally different)  What are the options available to Team B?  (Hint: 15 yards from the spot of the foul is NOT an option).  (9-4-4, 10-2-4)

Unabated to the QB   Good example of an AR 7-1-5-III situation where a defender is behind the offensive line prior to the snap so the officials shut down the play.  Also be aware you may need to add time back to the clock in these situations as clock operator may not have realized play never really started.

Illegal Block Below the Waist ?    The viewers can decide.  Watch the 2d receiver in on the strong side (B's key?).  The recent clarification to the blocking below the waist rule indicates that, when the wideout  blocks to the inside at any degree of blocking angle which is not clearly "north-south" or "south-north", it is a foul.  If you call this a foul in this play, where would the penalty be enforced from? (Hint: What is the status of the ball)

Late Substitution Mechanics    Good example of crew reacting to a late substitution by Team A and giving Team B an opportunity to match up.   Note the R signal (Signal 27) the U to prevent the snap and cover the ball.  Then he releases the U by pointing at him.

Chop Block?   Is the action of the running back and the left tackle a chop block?  Is the left tackle actually engaged with the defender?  Who should be observing this action in your crew?

Batting Kick in Team B's End Zone   This crew correctly dealt with the batting of a scrimmage kick in the end zone unlike a similar play we saw earlier this season.  Note the smooth, flawless mechanics by the B.  Straddling the goal line; drop the bag in the end zone; signal illegal touch and touchback; and signal first down for Team B.
